2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup molasses
1 cup boiling water
2 eggs, well beaten
Cooking time: 30 minutes

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease 13 X 9 X 2 inch baking pan.
Sift together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt; set aside.
Cream sugar with shortening and molasses until well blended.
Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with boiling water, beginning and ending with dry intredients.
Stir in eggs.
Pour into a well-greased 13 X 9X 2 inch baking pan.
Bake for 30 minutes or until center springs back with lightly pressed with fingertip.
Cool in pan on wire rack to room temperature.
Cut in large squares.
