Yield: 6 servings

1 pint fresh berries (blueberries, blackberries and/or strawberries)
1 cup flour
1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons margarine
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup cold water
1 dditional berries (optional)
Cooking time: 40 minutes

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Place 1 pint berries in 9 X 9 inch baking pan; set aside.
Combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
Cut in margarine with pastry blender or two knives until coarse crumbs form.
Stir in milk.
Spoon over berries.
Combine remaining 3/4 cup sugar and cornstarch in a small bowl.
Stir in water until sugar mixture dissolves; pour over berry mixture.
Bake 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned.
Serve warm or cool completely.
Garnish with additional berries, if desired.
