Yield: 12 muffins

1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk
3 tables shortening, melted
1 cup chopped dates
2 tablespoons flour
Cooking time: 25 minutes

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Grease 12 cup muffin pan.
Combine dry ingredients.
Make a well in center of dry ingredients.
Beat egg until light; add milk and shortening.
Pour liquid into well and stir until dry ingredients are moistened.
Combine the 2 tablespoons of flour and dates, add to muffin mixture.
Do not overbeat.
Fill muffin pan about 1/2 full.
Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
